The IPCA World Series….. an explanation
This is a new regatta series, introduced in 2023 to bring together Invited International crews on Platus prepared to a good racing standard by the IPCA and the regatta organisers. It is proposed that the boat and sails will be provided free of charge and the entry fee of 500 Euros per crew will go towards organization, ‘on water’ costs and refreshments each night in order to provide a platform for crews to discuss all aspects of the Platu Class. We hope that the racing will be hard fought on the water but that off the water, crews will get together for a fun time over a beer. These events will be “stand alone” and not part of a Championship for the year.
With covid and other financial constraints, sailing has had a hard time recently and entry numbers have been very disappointing. This Series is intended to encourage racing of a very high standard and the social side is to encourage dialogue between international crews and thereby increase international regatta numbers in future. Racing should be serious but events must be fun for everyone. It is hoped that the most experienced crews will pass on their knowledge to those with less experience.
This is a celebration of Platu sailing and we hope you will all contribute to it’s success and the future of the Class.
